Moles opened at 14 George Street on New Year's Eve 1977. Originally conceived as a vegetarian cafe with a jazz and folk club in the basement, it developed into one of Bath's best-known grassroots music venues. Over the years, Moles hosted numerous artists early in their careers, including The Cure, The Smiths, Radiohead, Blur, Oasis, Supergrass, The Killers, Ed Sheeran, Bastille and Mumford & Sons. The venue also operated its own recording studio and became an important part of Bath's independent music scene. After 45 years, Moles closed permanently on 5 December 2023 after entering insolvency.
