Show Notes

  • TJ's at 16-18 Clarence Place became one of South Wales' best-known independent rock venues after opening as a live music club in 1985. Closely associated with the UK's small-venue circuit, it was frequently referred to by Radio 1 DJ John Peel as 'The Legendary TJ's'. Oasis played here with local band 60 Ft. Dolls. The stage was reportedly almost level with the audience, creating an unusually intimate setting and members of the Manic Street Preachers were said to be among the crowd. Just a few days later, Liam was photographed in Newport for Oasis' first NME cover. TJ's closed in 2010 following the death of owner John Sicolo.
